I’m trying out a new theme. There are definitely pieces of it I really like, but it’s a radical change from what I’m used to. The biggest thing that might keep me from using it is that it’s a fixed width (size doesn’t change with your browser size). There are a couple other things that I’m not sure about, but generally I think it’s pretty clean and has potential.
I figured I’d check in with you all. Any opinions?
Do you like it the way it is? Do you prefer the previous theme? Would this be better if I tweaked it a bit (e.g., made it variable width)?
Or is this a topic that you couldn’t care less about if it was buried beneath 3000 tons of wet concrete?
UPDATE: Wow… not only are there pieces of this theme that I’d have to edit to make me happy, it actually BROKE MY WP STATS! I’ve apparently had zero hits since I put it up (which is obviously wrong, since I have comments and Google Analytics shows activity). As such, I’ve deactivated it and replaced the old theme. I’m taking the elements I like from the bad theme and looking for another that provides those features without breaking things in the process.

I don’t like this theme all that much. I liked the posts in a wider format, as on the previous theme. And I don’t find this header very interesting. I would probably like this more in time as I got more used to it — if you keep this. At any rate, I’ll keep reading and visiting your blog. I enjoy keeping up with what you’re thinking about. I think it’s interesting that I learn new things about you by reading your posts. And I’m your wife!

Yeah, if I keep this I’ll definitely have to hack it to a fluid column size for the posts. I also notice now that it doesn’t have previous and next links on the Post pages. That annoys me. That would have to be another hack.
I’m leaning against this theme over the last few hours. We’ll see how it goes for a little longer.

Hey, the theme is ok, but I think it has real potential to be better, what with custom headers etc. Its a bit more defined and ‘clean cut’ than your previous theme. It also keeps your posts separate from the extras you have, which I felt tended to creep in on the posts in your old one.
I can put you in touch with my designer if you like, he’s really good, and not that expensive! Would get you a nice custom header

I agree completely with your analysis of the extras bleeding into the posts on the old theme. That’s one of the reasons I wanted to try something different.
I’ve gone back to that theme, though, anyway. See the update above.

I don’t think I like it but probably because I’m so used to the old one and I tend to associate that with your site.
I’m sure it’ll grow on me if you keep it, I change mine like I change t-shirts

Yeah, I think your site changes looks more often than any other I visit. Keeps us on our toes, I suppose.
As I said in the update above, I’m back to the old theme for a while. Breaking my stats bugs me too much to let the theme grow on me.

I think thats quite a good idea, try and streamline the website that you already have. I look forward to seeing the progress
