When I went to college, I hung out with a bunch of music majors. I also hung out with a bunch of geeks. Sometimes those were the same people. I remember one party where a bunch of these people tuned their beer bottles to different notes and gathered into a ‘beer choir’ to play ‘Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star’ (at least I think that’s what it was). They chose a simple song because they only had a few people, so they could only play a song with about 6 notes. It took them a few tries (they were drunk, after all), but they pulled it off.*
(*At this point it should be stated that I myself was not drunk, as I never drank anything but soda at those parties. Just so we’re clear on that, Mom and Dad.)
That memory came flooding back when I ran across this video on Culture Kills. As Matt states, this video is all the more cool because it combines a high geekiness with its music. See, the music is one of the themes from the video game Chrono Trigger. It’s also a technically impressive feat to have edited this video together into something interesting. Think about it: he recorded each note only once (or maybe a couple of times to catch different durations), and then edited it together into the song, pulling the video for each note as needed. That’s a lot of time spent on this, and it came out pretty well.
