Avoiding the Inception doghouse

Those of you who have read my last post know that there were some issues surrounding my trip to see Inception last weekend. If you haven’t read my last post, what the heck are you doing reading this one? Get over there and read that one first – I’m not going to re-explain everything here.

So some people read that post and immediately assumed I was in the proverbial doghouse. The reason for that is likely because when I wrote it I thought I was in said doghouse, too. But then a cool thing happened – my wife.

Have I mentioned lately that my wife is awesome?

We had had the “you went without me?” discussion on the phone while she was travelling. When she got home, I had her read the blog post. Before she got two paragraphs in she stopped and said that on the rest of the drive she was thinking and remembered having said I should go, and having considered it concluded that she was right to suggest it. So, no doghouse!!

But she didn’t stop there. This is where she gets “awesome” points.

She said I should use my free ticket to go back to see it alone in the theater again. I was hesitant about that, so she suggested that I use it to go get the ticket, but then hang out and only go in for the final 40 minutes if I didn’t want to sit through the whole 2+ hours.

She was also supportive of me going to any other movie, again by myself, and if I could figure out the timing, when that movie was over, head into Inception for the final 30 minutes.

The criteria, of course, is that she gets to watch the film when it comes out on DVD… which is fine with me.

To be clear, this wasn’t one of those “no, no… YOU eat the last piece of cake that I’ve been staring at for the last 10 minutes” kind of suggestion. She was actually serious about this, and not in the least hurt or passive-aggressive.

Very cool woman. I’m not sure I’d be willing to give up something I wanted to see like that.

Now, having said all that, I’m still not exactly sure what I’m going to do. I still may take her if we can find some free babysitting (admittedly a tall order), but it’s great to know that she’s supportive of whichever way I decide.
