I just finished recording with my wife the inaugural edition of my completely new and wonderful conception: the “Things I didn’t blog about but should have” podcast.
That’s right, you can hear in live, monophonic sound, my own voice telling you about the things that I just didn’t bother writing about!
How much would you pay for that?! WAIT! Don’t answer… there’s more.
Each edition will have someone talking with me about the things I didn’t blog about. And when we’ve finished talking about that, we’ll talk about shows we’ve watched or other entertainment-y stuff (that’s the plan normally, though we skipped that part due to length this time). Finally, we’ll talk about stuff the other person hasn’t blogged about (which, in my wife’s case, could theoretically take a while, since she doesn’t have a blog … yet). And maybe there will be a few surprises (or maybe not… the suspense is killing you, isn’t it?).
NOW how much would you pay?
Cheapskate.
Well, lucky for you it’s free.
The raw recording for this one came in at 1 hour and 25 minutes, so I’m hoping to pare it down considerably. Just taking out the ‘ums’ may bring it down by a half-hour. I may even break this one into a two-parter (that’s what they do with series premiers, don’t they?). Or maybe I’ll just leave it as one big way to pass the time while you’re jogging or sitting on a train.
Get ready… it’s coming. It’ll be before next year, at any rate.
Here’s an outtake to give you a taste:

Looking forward to it!!

Thanks!
Go in with low expectations, though. It’ll be better for all concerned.

Oh man Dan stole the comment I wanted to write – he’s so unoriginal!!!
Can’t wait, really looking forward to this – are you going to publish to iTunes? (I’ll happily download outside of iTunes)

I was considering holding off on iTunes until I figure this out a little better. For now, it’ll just be here. I’ve already got ideas for ways to improve it, even to the point of changing the title. I’m not even positive where I’m going to host these long term yet. Where did you guys host the midmo audio before you joined that network?

We still self host it on Lee’s server. Although the network does offer free hosting. There’s a wordpress plugin that handles publishing to itunes and stuff. Lee would be able to tell you more.

I’ve got unlimited hosting that I couldn’t live without from my web design days, to be honest I don’t even know what I pay for it but I know that it’s a little extra but not crazy.
We use the plugin “Podcasting Plugin by TSG” it’s quite simple and if you decide to feed to iTunes then it can handle that for you. If you are on limited space though you may want to keep a close eye on it especially your bandwidth use. Dan and I toyed with the idea of our own podcast network but I think neither have the scope or the contacts to get it off the ground.
But we’ll happily plug yours for you too when you go live
