I’m late for leaving on a trip, so this will be quick.
The Dark Knight Rises is a completely worthy capstone to the Nolan/Bale Batman trilogy. It turns the trilogy into a cohesive whole, and never feels awkward while doing it.
It is long, like the second entry in the series, but even though I think they could have shaved a couple minutes, I have no problem with the length. The footage never feels wasted.
The story… well, I said no spoilers and I’m going to take a firm line on that for this film. There were points in which it was predictable, but probably only for someone who knows existing comics backstory, and even then some people won’t see it coming.
The visuals – holy cow. I did NOT see it in IMAX, but I kind of wish I had. I don’t think it loses anything if you see it in regular size, but I imagine it gains something on the bigger screen. Some of those scenes deserve the large format.
The ending – awesome. That’s all I say on that.
Was it perfect? No, but it was as close as humanly possible. Was it as good as The Dark Knight? That’s a hard question to answer. I think many will say yes. I think TDK has the edge, but only because the Joker is such a dynamic character – no knock to the current film at all.
So much more to say about this film, but I’d end up in spoilers, and as I said, I’m late. Gotta fly.
End result: See this film in theaters. And it wouldn’t hurt to watch the other two again first (though it’s not necessary).
