The Sing-Off: The Final Four

Woo hoo! I called it!

Afro-Blue was surprisingly bad, though, on Monday’s R&B episode. I think they got too caught up in trying to take on the judges criticisms and lost who they were. They (especially Christie) also seemed really tired. I was a little worried they’d be gone instead of Vocal Point for a bit.

I’ve seen a lot of criticism of the judges decision on this one. Obviously I think they made the . . . → Read More: The Sing-Off: The Final Four

The Sing-Off: recap and predictions

I’m pretty sure my wife will have no problem confirming this: I’m addicted to The Sing-Off.  Last year’s show blew my mind with the talent involved. This year matches that achievement.

It didn’t start out as good as last year, though. Of course there were fewer episodes last year, and therefore fewer groups involved; they didn’t have as much room for mediocrity (though truth be told, even mediocrity here is pretty darn good).

2011 Movies – The Final Push

Back in May I posted a list of the movies I wanted to see this year. So far I’ve seen 7 out of the 10 I was shooting for, plus caught up on 2 that I had missed once they came out on DVD. Not too bad. I’m pretty sure I’ve reviewed them all on here after seeing them.

There are a few on that list that haven’t come out yet, and there are some . . . → Read More: 2011 Movies – The Final Push

Found on Facebook – episode 2

Every once in a while people post interesting stuff on Facebook, instead of just the inane time-sucking games and narcissism that usually goes on there.

Speaking of narcissism, here’s a picture of me that Lee Sargent drew for my birthday yesterday.

Everybody wants to play Clue Jr. with Jeff Caddick

That’s the only present I got yesterday that I wanted to share with everyone. (The Pringles are MINE.)

2011 Emmy Awards – my thoughts

Well, it’s Emmy time again. Time for America to watch as actors congratulate themselves on doing a great job entertaining us, and make a spectacle of themselves while they do it.

That sounds kind of harsh, doesn’t it?

I used to have very strong opinions about the Emmys and made a point to watch it every year. I got wrapped up in who I thought should win or lose, and sometimes felt the tension along . . . → Read More: 2011 Emmy Awards – my thoughts

Star Wars… they did it again!

Well, the 15,000th version of Star Wars is coming out on Blu-ray soon.

I’ll give Lucas a lot of credit. The man is a genius at marketing. He must have a huge storehouse of stuff that he can release for each new version of the movies he puts out.

This time the thing that is getting me to consider buying the Blu-ray is this deleted scenes trailer:

I foolishly thought that the DVD releases . . . → Read More: Star Wars… they did it again!

Review: Rise of the Planet of the Apes

There was a time when I was really into The Planet of the Apes series. I watched all the movies and the TV show, multiple times. I still enjoy the first and last films in the series (I’m pretty sure it was the last film… the one where they come back in time and Ceasar is born).

Now, as may be obvious, I barely remember the titles of the films. But I have fond memories . . . → Read More: Review: Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Movie Theater vs. Home Theater (part 3)

To review: I’m talking about an article on ZDNet that tries to make the case for streaming first-run movies to a home theater. In the first part, I laid out the argument they made, and then took a look at the ‘why I hate theaters’ portion. In the second part, I moved on to their ‘why my home is awesome’ argument.

Now let’s take a look at what prices would be required and a few other hurdles to streaming . . . → Read More: Movie Theater vs. Home Theater (part 3)

Movie Theater vs. Home Theater (part 2)

To review: I’m talking about an article on ZDNet that tries to make the case for streaming first-run movies to a home theater. In the first part, I laid out the argument they made, and then took a look at the ‘why I hate theaters’ portion.

This time I’m moving on to their ‘why my home is awesome’ portion.

But first, let me address a point a forgot to address last time. They argued that . . . → Read More: Movie Theater vs. Home Theater (part 2)

Movie Theater vs. Home Theater (part 1)

Yesterday I read an article in the ZDNet Tech Broiler attempting to make the case for the studios to release first-run movies direct to streaming options (specifically Netflix and iTunes). What they really did was take a full page laying out the case for why they don’t like going to the theater.

Their argument made the following points, frequently predicated on the reality that corporate megaplexes have mostly pushed out the smaller independent theaters:
