By Jeff, on February 18th, 2012 I don’t know about the girls out there, but I know every teenage boy has wondered what it would be like to have super-powers. What would you really do with them? Lots of movies play with that theme, but I’d argue that none is as successful at it as Chronicle.
You know why it’s successful? Because (despite what you see in the trailer) the movie isn’t really about super-powers. It’s about these kids, their friendship, and . . . → Read More: Review: Chronicle (2012)
By Jeff, on February 17th, 2012 I’ve done the math and the interest in this from my typical readership turns out to be slightly less than zero, but hey… it’s my blog. I write what I want to write. You can come back next time for the usual drivel.
I ran into a problem recently that took me forever to solve because I was laboring under the false notion that it was actually possible to pull off within Captivate natively. It’s . . . → Read More: How to publish a multi-file Captivate project as a single SCORM course
By Jeff, on February 14th, 2012 Recently a North Carolina man named Tommy Jordan posted a video on Facebook in response to a letter his teenage daughter, Hannah, had written on Facebook. The video was intended as an “in kind” response to his daughter, but it went viral and now Tommy (and his family) is dealing with the downside of short-term fame.
I’ve watched the video, and read all of the subsequent posts he has made on his Facebook page. It’s . . . → Read More: Tommy Jordan: Parenting and Instant Fame in the Internet Age
By Jeff, on February 1st, 2012 Once or twice a year I get the opportunity to play poker with some friends. Supposedly, one of those opportunities is coming up in the next couple of months (right, Paul?). One game is with guys I’ve known since my school years. The other is with the guys from my Bible study. In one we play for cash (only a few bucks, but still, real legal tender). In one we play for a Hillary Clinton . . . → Read More: Poker face
By Jeff, on January 29th, 2012 Yeah, I got this from a chain mail, but it’s the first one to make me laugh out loud in a few years, so here you go…
A Lawyer and a senior citizen are sitting next to each other on a long flight.
The lawyer is thinking that seniors are so dumb that he could get one over on them easily.
So, the lawyer asks if the senior would like to play . . . → Read More: How to make $490
By Jeff, on January 28th, 2012 I am not a big sports fan. I enjoy watching tennis from time to time, but have even lost touch with that mostly. I like watching televised sports in short bursts. A couple of plays at a time is about the most I can handle of a football game. I can’t carry on an intelligent conversation about sports for long.
Apparently, the time is coming when that will change.
I just discovered a new blog . . . → Read More: Why Dads of girls watch sports
By Jeff, on January 24th, 2012 At my house we have a bit of a push-and-pull relationship with time. My wife pushes, and I pull.
Call me crazy, but I don’t think we need to leave a half-hour early to get a place 10 minutes from our house. I’m willing to leave 15 minutes early if I have to, but three times the required time is just too much.
My wife gets stressed if we leave on my schedule, but we’re . . . → Read More: Rules for showing up
By Jeff, on January 22nd, 2012 Maybe I should have called this series of posts “Force Fed”.
While that’s not exactly the truth about how it went down, that title does reflect a bit of how I feel now that we’ve completed watching Return of the Jedi, and thus the original trilogy.
I definitely didn’t force my kids to watch these movies. They’ve been asking (and at times whining) to see them. I do think that I didn’t hold out as . . . → Read More: Star Wars Conundrum: Original Trilogy Reflection
By Jeff, on January 15th, 2012 These are my site hits over the last week.
Before and after
See if you can figure out when my most popular post ceased showing up on the first page of search results.
By Jeff, on January 12th, 2012 I wrote before about the problem I have with showing my daughters the Star Wars series (well, some of them). It’s difficult to decide what order to show them which versions of the films, and how quickly.
I think I’ve got it figured out.
We’ve now seen A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back a couple of times. There is some question in their minds as to whether Vader was being truthful when he said . . . → Read More: Star Wars Conundrum: Sorted
