The gift of music

This is one of a series of articles I wrote for The Coalition of Awesomeness blog some time ago. The blog has since gone to an unfortunate (but very awesome) grave so I thought I’d share it here. This particular entry has a special meaning for me, and may shed some light on one of the entries on the list in a recent post.

It wasn’t my birthday, or Christmas, or any of the typical . . . → Read More: The gift of music

Who do you serve, and who do you trust?

This is one of a series of articles I wrote for The Coalition of Awesomeness blog some time ago. The blog has since gone to an unfortunate (but very awesome) grave so I thought I’d share it here. Those were the focal questions of Crusade, the Babylon 5 spin-off/sequel series that was cancelled before it even aired. I don’t know what the answers to those questions would have been, but I’m pretty confident that the show’s creator, J. . . . → Read More: Who do you serve, and who do you trust?

How geeky are you, really? – 7 day challenge

In the 7 day challenge, today’s topic is: Answer one question I think people visiting my blog may have.

Let’s be honest: I have no idea what question you guys/gals may have. Y’all need to speak up more for me to discern that.

So that leaves me with a choice – I can come up with some completely self-serving question like “what’s the best post you’ve written?” or I can make up something that allows . . . → Read More: How geeky are you, really? – 7 day challenge

2 voices + 4 spices = 1 big impact

You never know what’s going to make an impact on your kids. I don’t mean an immediate “wow!” impact, I’m talking about the long term stuff. It may not even be a big deal when it happens, and you might not know of its impact for years to come.

I wrote about one of those moments on the Coalition of Awesomeness recently.

Birthday pimpin’

So, today’s my birthday. 40th, if you’re wondering. I’m feeling slightly more like looking back and seeing how things have gone to this point than I have for previous birthdays, but that’s pretty much the only difference. I might write more about that later. I’m still waking up with the same aches and pains which are alternately aggravated and erased by my awesome family. I still have to work today. I still have a pile . . . → Read More: Birthday pimpin’

Found on Facebook

Facebook is a place where absolutely nothing of importance happens. But you do get to see some funny, or at least interesting, posts from time to time. Here are some of the better ones I’ve seen recently:

The myth of the solitary gamer

Over on The COA we’ve been talking about gaming experiences. To us geeks, that typically means video games, in case there’s any confusion. Though this wasn’t planned, throughout the articles and comments there has been a thread about the social aspect of gaming, and a sense that the rest of the world sees gaming geeks as hunkered down in their parent’s basements eating Cheetos with only their computer for company.

Sure, there are times when . . . → Read More: The myth of the solitary gamer

Am I getting more awesome?

Am I awesome?

Well that’s sort of a silly question. Of course I am. I’m me, after all.

But is it possible that I’m getting more awesome?

I can’t say for sure, but the fact that I’ve joined together with an international cadre of bloggers recognized for their awesomeness can only be a good sign.

So far our awesomeness is primarily self-proclaimed, but we’ve got the title to put us over the top as the . . . → Read More: Am I getting more awesome?
