By Jeff, on June 25th, 2011 My parents came out for the weekend, which means (among other things) free babysitting. That, in turn, means movies!
My wife and I saw two movies in a row tonight: Green Lantern and Super 8.
Expectations were split for these two. I’ve been looking forward to Super 8 since the first trailer (which, btw, showed absolutely nothing taken from the movie). I had initially been looking forward to Green Lantern since it was first announced, . . . → Read More: Review: Green Lantern / Super 8 Double Feature!
By Jeff, on May 25th, 2011 I’m going to revisit a couple of topics discussed here recently and then we’ll hit some new topics.
Well, after my last post I finished watching The Event. I stick with what I said about it, except for this: they did finally manage to make the title relevant, and they alluded to more about the “protectors” that showed they really did have some kind of plan. I like that they had been here before (guess . . . → Read More: Revisitation and new worlds
By Jeff, on May 7th, 2011 I’m a bit behind in putting up my movie list for this year.
Last year’s list was full of promise, but I only got to see 4 of the 21 listed films in the theater. I’ve since brought the total up to 11 with the help of DVDs. I hope to catch the 12th (Voyage of the Dawn Treader) on DVD next week. I’m still annoyed that I missed that one.
And once again this . . . → Read More: 2011 Movies to Drool Over
By Jeff, on May 3rd, 2011 If you thought he was gone, you weren’t paying attention.
He’s back! He’s opinionated! He’s Australian! He’s spent more time thinking about pop culture than is probably healthy!
And that last bit actually pays off in this, the second half of our conversation, as Lee Sargent and I concentrate on pop culture and movie/TV news and rumors, including a run down of why Wonder Woman’s shorts are annoying, which Pixar films shouldn’t get sequels (but . . . → Read More: TIDBABSH 2: Part 2: Return of The Australian
By Jeff, on April 4th, 2011 How many major “cons” are there in a year (that’s “conference” for the un-geeked)? New footage is spilling out like water from WonderCon, held recently, and Green Lantern is pouring out 4 minutes of mostly new scenes.
Thankfully, it almost all looks better than the first official trailer, which I basically panned.
It’s still a little too obviously computer-generated for my tastes, but still better than the first trailer. Apparently I’m not the only . . . → Read More: Seeing Green… Lanterns
By Jeff, on November 16th, 2010 I’ve been excited and worried about this one for a long time. Green Lantern is an exceptionally hard character to pull off in live-action. More than most other super-heroes, the effects are front and center, and extremely important to get right, but extremely susceptible to looking cartoony. They have to look realistic, and yet they have no connection to reality. The ring effects in particular should have substance, and yet not. Go too far one . . . → Read More: Green Lantern – first trailer
By Jeff, on June 10th, 2010 My second guest shot on the Midnight Movie Club was posted this week, reviewing the film “Return To Me” (with a stellar cast led by David Duchovny and Minnie Driver – in the movie, not the podcast). If the stats are accurate, many of you missed this film when it came out in 2000 (though the odds are apparently better if you were in an airplane around then). That’s a shame because it’s a great . . . → Read More: Return to MidMo and other short subjects
By Jeff, on October 7th, 2009 This is just too perfect. I actually laughed out loud at a couple.

My favorites are by far Spider-Man’s and Green Lantern’s.
They need one for The Tick, though… SPOOOOOOOOOON!
By Jeff, on August 10th, 2009 Green Lantern – First Flight
With characters that have as huge of an existing storyline as Green Lantern, it’d be easy for a movie like Green Lantern: First Flight to get lost in trying to add in all the cool stuff and cameos that could be covered. That isn’t the case here. This is a lean movie. At 70 minutes, you could actually argue that it’s too lean. But I still liked it.

By Jeff, on August 4th, 2009 (Holy cow, was today Tuesday?! What happened to last week?)
The new animated Green Lantern movie, First Flight was released last week. Here are the first four minutes of the film…

I’m looking forward to seeing the whole thing.
Not as much as I’m looking forward to the live action movie, though. But my excitement is a little tempered by news of who landed the role of Hal Jordan: . . . → Read More: Green Lantern: First Flight (and other Green Lantern news) – Tuesday TubeWatch
