John Williams is probably the most well known film composer in history. He owes much of that success to the Star Wars series, but Jaws, Superman, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and Raiders of the Lost Ark* are just some of the other landmark soundtracks of his early career.

As the Star Wars prequel era was about to launch with Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace, a comedy singing group called Moosebutter came up with the wacky idea to tell the story of the original trilogy (Episodes 4-6, for those who are confused), through song. But the brilliance of this idea is that they didn’t use the familiar Star Wars theme, as may have been expected. No, they used the soundtracks from other John Williams-scored films. Even more impressive, they actually arranged their own 4-part a capella version of each score (and did it pretty well) to create this medley.

Then some guy came along and lip-synced to it, and did a nice job putting the video together, and now it’s out there for all to see. In fact, it’s right here:

Cheesy? Absolutely. But there’s talent in there, and it’s fun. And really, it’s nowhere near as cheesy as many Star Wars related fan creations. That’s probably because when it comes down to it, this is more of a John Williams tribute than a Star Wars tribute.

———————————-

* Yeah, I know they renamed it “Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark” but that’s just stupid, revisionist titling. It will always be “Raiders of the Lost Ark” in this house.
