By Jeff, on December 12th, 2008 The Dark Knight
Christopher Nolan, director of The Dark Knight, has stated that he’s in no hurry to make the second sequel to Batman Begins. He has reason to be cautious. Historically speaking, the third installment in a franchise has been, shall we say, lacking. Superman III, Spiderman 3, Terminator 3, Batman Forever, Rocky III, Police Academy 3… need I go on? Nolan’s got the right idea:

Looks like I am officially blogging. I am too cool for words. (Ironic, isn’t it.)
Thusly did this, my first blogging experience, begin. Pretty sad, really, but there you have it. Now here we are, three years and over 400 posts later, and I figure it’s about time I looked back to see if I’ve ever . . . → Read More: Three years of yammering on…
By Jeff, on December 5th, 2008 Well, my last sci-fi news post was a bit late, but all this news is at least recent-ish.
First off, two bits of Battlestar Galactica related stories:
The Sci-Fi channel has apparently officially given the green light to BSG spin-off “Caprica” with a 2010 kickoff.
The series, which will focus on the the Earthlike planet of Caprica as two rival families deal with, among other topical issues, the broader implications of their society’s emerging . . . → Read More: More recent sci-fi updates
By Jeff, on November 27th, 2008 A few things that are now probably old news for some of you have come across my reader. Sorry I didn’t get to pass them on earlier. I done been busy.
So this’ll be just a quick list for the most part.
The next Family Guy: Blue Harvest special will parody Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. There will also be an upcoming Family Guy episode that features a Star Trek crew:

By Jeff, on August 21st, 2008 GateWorld – SCI FI confirms Atlantis cancellation, TV movie
Stargate: Atlantis has been cancelled. The show will run through its 100th episode in January 2009 and end on a cliffhanger, which will be resolved by a 2-hour movie.
So basically, this is the new way the studios want to handle their successful franchises – run the series for a while, then make a few DVDs. I suppose I can’t blame them. The formula worked for . . . → Read More: Stargate to die a slow, painful death
By Jeff, on July 21st, 2008 I don’t have it in me to write everything I think about this movie right now, but I wanted to get something down.
Just like Spider-man 2, this sequel takes an amazingly good predecessor and improves on it.
And just like in the Spider-man franchise, the key is focusing on the character’s development. Bruce/Batman learns a lot about himself and his chosen line of work – the limits, the responsibilities, and the consequences.

By Jeff, on July 8th, 2008 Let’s get this out of the way: if you stare too closely at the details of a Russell Davies’ Doctor Who story, you might fall through a plot hole and end up in a paradox. Nobody wants to be stuck in a paradox, so just go with the intent of the story and ignore some of the pesky little details that geeks love to argue about. Stick with that mindset and you’ve opened yourself up . . . → Read More: Review: Doctor Who 2008
By Jeff, on July 2nd, 2008 I’ve fallen really behind on posting lately. Given the upcoming holiday there probably won’t be much for the next few days either. But I wanted to quickly throw a few things out there in Sci-Fi and Entertainment news.
Hobbit films (report stolen from Slice of Sci-Fi):
Director Guillermo del Toro told reporters during a Hellboy press junket that his first “The Hobbit” movie will stick strictly to J.R.R. Tolkien’s original “The Hobbit” material, however, the . . . → Read More: Quick Notes on Entertainment News
By Jeff, on June 24th, 2008 There really isn’t much I can say about this… it’s one of those painful things that happens at sci-fi conventions. But you gotta see the third act.

Sometimes I miss going to conventions…. other times, not so much.
By Jeff, on June 21st, 2008 Back in April I wrote a list of the movies I want to see this year in the theater. So far I’ve seen all the ones I called as a must-see and missed all the others (which, so far, is just Speed Racer).
When I go to the theater, I love to see the previews. I consider them an art unto themselves. It can’t be easy to tease an unfinished movie by pulling out the . . . → Read More: Summer Movie List 2 – Revenge of the Trailer
