By Jeff, on May 23rd, 2011 Lots of series finales showed up this year. Some of them were only supposed to be season finales, but the shows were cancelled. Most of the time, they didn’t know they were being cancelled when the finale was filmed, which leaves us fans in a bit of a pickle, dealing with completely open-ended stories – and even full-on cliffhangers. But this is where we find ourselves, and there’s nothing to be done about it except . . . → Read More: Super-Review: Cancelled shows
By Jeff, on May 7th, 2011 I’m a bit behind in putting up my movie list for this year.
Last year’s list was full of promise, but I only got to see 4 of the 21 listed films in the theater. I’ve since brought the total up to 11 with the help of DVDs. I hope to catch the 12th (Voyage of the Dawn Treader) on DVD next week. I’m still annoyed that I missed that one.
And once again this . . . → Read More: 2011 Movies to Drool Over
By Jeff, on March 27th, 2011 … and then nothing but disappointment. That pretty much describes this podcast. Really there is some interesting stuff discussed somewhere in there, but to get to it, you have to listen to me talking. Sorry about that, but it is the way of things.
On the upside, you do get to hear my wife talking about this stuff as well, so you got that going for you. Which is nice.
Of course throughout the entire . . . → Read More: Grand opening…
By Jeff, on October 17th, 2009 There are some out there who would call this “weak 3″ of the show. This is definitely the slowest pacing of a Stargate series yet. The premiere was good, but mostly consisted of people freaking out (understandably) about the situation they were in. By the end of the premiere they at least had a plan to survive for a little while longer, with the help of the ship’s guidance and Rush’s ability to interpret what . . . → Read More: Stargate Universe, week 3, Darkness
By Jeff, on October 7th, 2009 Before jumping into the new stuff, just a quick note on the second episodes of shows that started last week…
Heroes – an improvement. I both enjoyed and was annoyed by the Sylar/Parkman bit. It was obvious, but fun and frustrating to watch. FlashForward – again, an improvement. I like the expansion of the ‘conspiracy’ and that they’re not holding back on moving forward with the investigation. Makes it feel like it will be a . . . → Read More: Premiere weeks 2009, part 2 – SGU and Clone Wars
By Jeff, on September 7th, 2009 The fall TV season is upon us. Are there any shows out there worthy of watching this year? Any guilty pleasures you’ve just gotta have? Anything that just drains the life out of you but you used to love it and can’t give it up?
I used to watch much more television than I do now. I watched sit-coms, cartoons, dramas… anything but reality TV. Now I’m even avoiding shows that I would probably like . . . → Read More: Flashing Forward to Fall TV
By Jeff, on January 10th, 2009 First Stargate: SG-1 went down after 10 years. Now, Stargate: Atlantis has hit the wall after five years. That’s all she (they) wrote. Next up… another spin-off (in the fall, I believe).
Not to knock what they did there in the finale, but… I don’t know… it felt a bit… rushed, maybe. Then again, it also felt like it took a while.
I think maybe the scheduling had something to do with it. We were . . . → Read More: Two Stargates down, one set to go
By Jeff, on August 26th, 2008 SciFi opens a new Stargate : Slice of SciFi
As I mentioned in my last post, Stargate: Atlantis has been cancelled and will be wrapped up in a 2-hour movie. I also referred to a third potential Stargate series. That’s now been confirmed, and the title is Stargate: Universe.
The plot:
“Universe” introduces a team of explorers who find an ancient unmanned ship called the Destiny. Unable to return to Earth, the crew must fend . . . → Read More: New series – Stargate: Voyager… uh, I mean Universe
By Jeff, on August 21st, 2008 GateWorld – SCI FI confirms Atlantis cancellation, TV movie
Stargate: Atlantis has been cancelled. The show will run through its 100th episode in January 2009 and end on a cliffhanger, which will be resolved by a 2-hour movie.
So basically, this is the new way the studios want to handle their successful franchises – run the series for a while, then make a few DVDs. I suppose I can’t blame them. The formula worked for . . . → Read More: Stargate to die a slow, painful death
By Jeff, on August 7th, 2008 Everybody dies. Some of them more than once.
Usually, that kind of statement is either a joke or a major spoiler, but then, this is a time travel movie, so I really haven’t told you anything of any importance. Or have I? In a time travel movie, it’s all about when you die that matters.
Stargate: Continuum is a fun return to the lives of the SG-1 team. There were two main story threads left . . . → Read More: Review: Stargate: Continuum
