MovieWatch 2013

It’s time for my annual(ish) list of movies I want to catch this year. Strap in and let the trailers wash over you like pure adrenalin. (Not that I know what an adrenalin shower is like, ’cause I kind of think that would be a bit… icky. Though that’s not really the feeling I think you should take away from watching these trailers… so… look, just get excited, okay? Sheesh, you people are so literal.)

Review: The Avengers (2012) (no spoilers)

Yesterday (well, technically today) I posted that The Avengers was one of three movies that I would see even if I had to sell my mother to the Russians, with no guilt.

Having seen it now, I completely stand by that claim. In fact, I’d consider selling her now just to see it again.

What Joss Whedon assembled here is phenomenal. Amazing. Incredible. I’m not sure I know enough superlatives to adequately capture how . . . → Read More: Review: The Avengers (2012) (no spoilers)

7 movies my mother has to worry about (and a bunch more)

2012 has an impressive line-up of films. Time travel, mutation, gods, monsters, hobbits, technology, and sheer awesomeness all combine to create an almost inescapable desire to just set up an automatic withdrawal from my checking account to my local movie theater.

Almost.

As usual, but even more so this year, money is tight. Hard choices have to be made. I don’t know if I’m strong enough to make them, but I have to try. Last . . . → Read More: 7 movies my mother has to worry about (and a bunch more)

Review: Thor

Thor.

So… Thor.

Let me tell you… my back was so Thor after I spent all that time sitting in the theater.

Thank you! Tip your waiters!

Okay, seriously. I saw Thor tonight. And it scared me.

No, it’s not a scary movie. I’m not sure I even jumped once, except in excitement at how cool what was going on looked. There was a lot of work put into the visuals of this film. A . . . → Read More: Review: Thor

2011 Movies to Drool Over

I’m a bit behind in putting up my movie list for this year.

Last year’s list was full of promise, but I only got to see 4 of the 21 listed films in the theater. I’ve since brought the total up to 11 with the help of DVDs. I hope to catch the 12th (Voyage of the Dawn Treader) on DVD next week. I’m still annoyed that I missed that one.

And once again this . . . → Read More: 2011 Movies to Drool Over

Tuesday TubeWatch: Ikea and Jonathan Coulton

Ever since “Ikea” popped up on one of my Pandora stations months ago, it’s been one of my favorites.

Every time I hear or see words like “Ikea,” “Thor,” or “Norsemen” this song immediately pops to mind. It’s surprising how many times that happens given I live in the US nowhere near an Ikea.

It’s catchy, and it’s funny. (And Paul, if you don’t listen to this one, I will hunt you down.)
