How I’ve wasted my life

This may be the first meme I’ve done on this blog. I’ve done a couple on Facebook, but none here that I can remember. I caught this one over at Quit Your Day Job, and got sucked into its pull.

I just realized that this post tells you two different ways I waste my time: by watching all the TV shows identified below, and by spending time doing this list to begin with.

Flashing Forward to Fall TV

The fall TV season is upon us. Are there any shows out there worthy of watching this year? Any guilty pleasures you’ve just gotta have? Anything that just drains the life out of you but you used to love it and can’t give it up?

I used to watch much more television than I do now. I watched sit-coms, cartoons, dramas… anything but reality TV. Now I’m even avoiding shows that I would probably like . . . → Read More: Flashing Forward to Fall TV

Radioactive Spider Blood – Tuesday TubeWatch

Other heroes may be dark, brooding and intelligent, or invincible super-nice guys, but no one is as fun to watch as Spider-Man. More than most other super-heroes, he seems like a regular (if really intelligent) guy who is trying to juggle two lives without losing his sense of humor. I can relate to him better than any other super-hero I can think of at the moment.

That relatability has a lot to do with the . . . → Read More: Radioactive Spider Blood – Tuesday TubeWatch

Torchwood: Children of Earth – Review

Gwen and Rhys Cooper saving children from the military

Russell T. Davies has a knack with stories. He’s very good at writing stories that – despite plot holes and cliches – have much emotional impact. I’m sure that with time I’ll look back at this mini-series with a more critical eye to the technicalities of plot, but right now, 10 minutes after the credits rolled, just about all I can say is this: as . . . → Read More: Torchwood: Children of Earth – Review

What do Bruce Campbell and the Olympics have in common? – Tuesday TubeWatch

I knew that I knew it from somewhere. It sounded familiar, but I couldn’t place it. Now I know. The Olympics stole their theme song from the opening credits of one of my favorite too-quickly-cancelled shows.

The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. had much in common with another favorite western of mine, Wild, Wild West (not to be confused with the unfortunate movie reboot version). Bruce Campbell brought his trademark snarkiness to Brisco and . . . → Read More: What do Bruce Campbell and the Olympics have in common? – Tuesday TubeWatch

Graphic novels are all the rage – Tuesday TubeWatch

Okay, that may be overstating it slightly, but comic book properties are getting a lot more attention in the last few years. The encouraging thing is that they are usually not being given a campy treatment, but rather are presented in a manner more consistent with the source material.

Mostly this is evident in the movies – Iron Man, Spider-man, Watchmen, X-men, The Spirit, Green Lantern, Superman, and many, many more examples have been trotted . . . → Read More: Graphic novels are all the rage – Tuesday TubeWatch

Battlestar blitz – be prepared

Battlestar Galactica is returning for the second half of its fourth and final season tonight (NOTE for those recording… the first new episode is extended and will go about 4 minutes over the hour). Just 10 episodes stand between us and the final fate of Humans and Cylons—even fewer than that before we find out the identity of the fifth Cylon. If you’ve forgotten what’s happened to this point (or for some crazy reason you’re . . . → Read More: Battlestar blitz – be prepared

Webisodes and commercials

To get us through the winter repeats, some shows are giving us webisodes. That includes Battlestar Galactica and Heroes.

In both cases, the short series are meant to provide a lead-in to the new episodes, now still a month away.

Heroes picks up during the final moments of the “Villains” finale and focuses on one of the recruits for the injection program:

Battlestar Galactica‘s offering seems to be following Felix Gaeta on a somewhat . . . → Read More: Webisodes and commercials

Three years of yammering on…

Three years ago today, at 11:48pm, I wrote these amazingly insightful words:

Check it out…

Friday, December 9th, 2005

Looks like I am officially blogging. I am too cool for words. (Ironic, isn’t it.)

Thusly did this, my first blogging experience, begin. Pretty sad, really, but there you have it. Now here we are, three years and over 400 posts later, and I figure it’s about time I looked back to see if I’ve ever . . . → Read More: Three years of yammering on…

Smallville fix

Smallville’s a repeat tonight after the mid-season cliffhanger two weeks ago. Not sure where the plot is going? Come on… Chloe is still possessed by Brainiac, Doomsday is a raving murderous monster who just wants to be loved, and Clark is going to save everyone, but take a beating in the process. That’s all without any spoilers.

Yeah, this season has had problems, but I’m looking forward to the beatings.

And to get your . . . → Read More: Smallville fix
